Cyber-noia

Cyber-noia

It might just be my imagination, vivid though it can be, but it seems the world is descending further and further into a state of paranoia related to cybercrime and its ability to invade every inch of our lives.

It is sad to see that, as advancements in AI herald a new era of digital transformation, the perception around its security is eroding its reputation at what appears to be a greater pace.

I have recently engaged a service provider and was asked to pay a deposit amount to get things moving. All of my communications have been via email and yet they would not supply me a bank account and sort code over the same medium for ‘fear of cyber fraud’. They would happily however give it to me over a phone line with no identity check. Additionally they said they would post it out over snail mail.

In the end I happened to be near the office and popped in, the receptionist wouldn’t tell me the number, and wouldn’t write it down but would happily give me a pre-printed piece of paper with all the details on – again with no identity check.

So in short rather than provide me details over an end-to-end encrypted modern communications solution they would happily give me them over older, easily intercepted, security bypassed (or non-existent) solutions as they deemed these safer.

It seems that our industry once again has a long way to go in terms of providing trusted solutions and giving people the level of confidence they need.
